I started taking Lyrica 3 months ago and have been having drunken events on a regular basis. They were very severe and lasted all day most times. They randomly came about 1 or 2 times a week. I had slurred speech and I talked funny. I could not drive and seemed very confused. I walked slow and my reflexes were also slow. It scared my family a lot!
I started taking Nortriptilyne and they upped my dose of Clonazepam to triple my usual dose at the same time, so I couldn't tell which one was giving me the problem. After a month, I lowered the Clonazepam back down to my original dose and was still getting the drunken events.
I thought it had something to do with my blood sugar so I started testing it again. I have very high amounts of insulin in my system and thus, have hypoglycemia and insulin resistance. After testing, I noticed my blood sugar was much higher all the time than it had ever been before and it wasn't going to the low's it used to go to. I felt as though I drank tons of caffiene, as well. I also noticed I was having heart palpitations and problems with sleeping too much all day the day after.
I did a lot of web searching but could not find any information to support these events until I finally hit your page months later. I called my doctor and told her what I had found on the internet and she told me to stop taking it immeadiately, and send her a copy of the web page. She said that the benefits of the drug didn't out weigh the bad side-effects. That was today. I will update later to let you know if it cured the problem.
I also take Nexium, Etodolac, Hydrochlorothiazide, Allegra, everyday and Vicodin for emergencies. All these are known interactors with Lyrica except for the Etodolac.
In my opinion, I feel the high amounts of insulin in my body was interacting with the Lyrica to cause this drunkeness. If I would eat something the symptoms would worsen. If I stayed away from the sugar and carbs, the symptoms were not there! I went on a non-carbohydrate diet for 4 days and had no problems what-so-ever with ill feelings! As a matter of fact, I felt pretty good, besides being hungry!
Take care and watch out! Lyrica is very unpredictible!
i had an upper respiratory infection so my doctor treated me with a Kenalog injection three seperate times. About six months later i noticed a strange bruise on my back where i had been injected. then the other injection sites started looking the same way. every day it got worse. within two months the injection site had become a hole that caused severe pain. the injections had caused a three inch deep hole at the site! it took over a year for the hole to fill back in. the hole became so deep i had to tape cotton balls over the holes so it wouldnt be noticeable through my jeans. it been a year since the holes filled back in and i still experience pain when i walk.
